The special conference edition of the CTBUH Journal 2021, Issue IV, sponsored by Schindler, coincided with the CTBUH 2021 International Conference, tracking along the theme of “The Future City: Addressing Carbon, Climate, and Societal Crises.” The issue covers whether we will see a megacity pick up from the coast and move inland away from rising seas, using plastic bottles as a direct construction material, designing well-being into hybrid work, and the tension between densification and social distancing, among other salient topics.

On November 21, 2021, CTBUH President Antony Wood sat on the jury panel for the International Architectural Design Competition for Nanjing Jiangbei New Financial Center II. Eight internationally renowned architectural design firms – Archilier, Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill, Arata Isozaki, Büro Ole Scheeren, HKS, GOA, MVRDV, and SPARK Architects - presented innovative proposals for Jiangbei New Area.

The 10th International Student Design Competition, kindly sponsored by TK Elevator, concluded on 29 October 2021, with the presentations of four finalists from a pool of more than 150 entries. After spirited deliberation, the Student Design Competition Second-Round Jury selected Smart Cube +/Fast-Assembling COVID-19 Prevention Olympic Village as the first-place winner.
