Javier Quintana de Uña Selected as CTBUH's New Chief Executive Officer

Antony Wood Moves to President to Lead the Council’s Thought-Leadership, Research, and Academic Initiatives

19 January 2022

Dear CTBUH Members and Friends,

On behalf of the CTBUH Board of Trustees, I’d like to share the fantastic news that Javier Quintana de Uña, has been selected as the next CTBUH Chief Executive Officer, where he will be working initially from his home in London, UK.

CTBUH CEO Javier Quintana de Uña

I personally can think of no one better suited for this role as Javier. I have had the pleasure to work alongside him as a colleague and as a loyal advisor for the CTBUH UK Chapter. There are few people who have the breadth and depth of experience that he brings with him to CTBUH. An architect with a Ph.D in Tall Buildings, he has been a leader of an award-winning global architecture firm, dean of a prominent academic institution, head of a successful nonprofit research foundation, and a passionate and committed leader at CTBUH over the years—all of which make him an ideal fit for advancing CTBUH’s strategic priorities.

As a deeply involved member and leader at the Council over the years, Javier was honored in 2020 as a CTBUH Fellow for his exemplary work in the industry and for his many contributions to the Council. His loyalty to the mission of our organization, his leadership of the CTBUH UK chapter, his  commitment and conscientiousness, and his exceptional professional and academic background make him ideally suited to take on this new role and guide CTBUH through its next genuinely exciting chapter.

CTBUH President Antony Wood

I am also thrilled to share that CTBUH’s current CEO, Antony Wood, will now move into the role of president, as announced in July 2021. As you may know, CTBUH has experienced major growth under Antony’s dynamic leadership since 2006. With his appointment to the presidency, we are expanding our investment in thought-leadership, teaching, and global industry research to address the complex relationships among policy, buildings, people, urban density, urban space, interior space, and infrastructure. Antony is extremely well positioned to lead this endeavor. As president, Antony will focus on his passion—thought leadership, research, and academic affairs—and will continue to serve as a global ambassador and a public face for CTBUH.

As the world’s attention increasingly focuses on the future of cities and urban development, the Council’s mission becomes ever more critical. As chairman of CTBUH, I can say with confidence that our new executive leadership team of Javier and Antony has the opportunity to leverage CTBUH’s strong fundamentals—not least our members’ engagement—to scale this organization to ever greater heights.

Please join me in congratulating Javier and Antony on their new roles at CTBUH.

My very best,

Steve
