Construction / Logistics / Supply Chain - Future Timber City Subgroup Meeting

2 February 2021

The Construction / Logistics / Supply Chain expert sub-group convened to establish research objectives for the project relating to their disciplines. Areas of focus included mass timber’s advantages of on-site and off-site construction, construction safety, traffic and environmental impact, and the impact of forestry certification on the supply chain. As in other groups, the Construction sub-group was also focused on regulatory and insurance implications of using mass timber, and of importing raw or assembled materials, as opposed to sourcing them domestically. The group highlighted that moisture management and protection of the timber structure is just as important during transportation, on-site storage, and assembly, as it is when the building is in use.
