Tokyo Redevelopment Project Focuses on Disaster Preparedness
The Mitsui Fudosan Residential's Nishi-Shinjuku 5-chome Central South District Type 1 Urban Redevelopment Project was approved by the Governor of Tokyo. The redevelopment will provide housing, commercial space, and childcare facilities.
The area of about 0.8 hectares facing Juniso-dori in Nishi-Shinjuku 5-chome is full of densely populated wooden houses in need of repair and narrow streets. In April 2014, it earmarked for intervention to improve urban disaster response and infrastructure rejuvenation.
In this project, a seismic isolation structure with intermediate seismic isolation will be installed, with 40 floors above ground and one basement floor. The site will also house a 4-story facility. The total floor area of the project will be about 53,742 square meters.
In addition, three plazas and open spaces will be developed to create an evacuation space in the event of a disaster and an entry route for emergency vehicles. A temporary shelter space in the event of a disaster will be set up in the building.
The project aims to be completed in 2024.
