Construction has officially started on a Kengo Kuma-designed mixed-use complex near Daikanyama Station in central Tokyo.

Tokyu Land’s Daikanyamacho Project is a 10-story building that will include retail, co-working office space, and rental apartments. The 4,084-square-meter site fronts onto one of the main boutique-lined streets in Daikanyama Station.

This site was previously the Daikanyama Loveria mixed-use complex that was developed by Tokyu Land in 1997. It closed in March 2014 and was re-branded and re-opened in the following November as TENOHA Daikanyama, with Tokyu operating it for a five year term. It also included Daikanyama Tokyu Apartments, an eight-story block of rental apartments built in 1993.

Prior to that, the site was home to the Daikanyama Tokyu Apaato. Developed by Tokyu in 1955, this was the first luxury rental apartment building in Japan to cater to wealthy foreign tenants.

Construction on the Daikanyamacho Project officially started on 17 May 2021 and is expected to complete by late 2023.
