Kris Lucius is Principal and Landscape Architect with SmithGroup. An urban thinker and designer, he approaches landscape architecture from an interest in how design shapes the spatial identity of public places and impacts the lives of people who live, work and play in our cities. Kris is continually striving to create solutions within challenging parameters that not only fulfill a client’s vision but bring an iconic and memorable sense of place to the community as a whole. In addition to his full-time design practice, Kris is a frequent teacher and visiting critic to several design schools. Most recently, he has taught at Illinois Institute of Technology, Ohio State University, and Ball State University. He is a passionate volunteer to improve urban environments in his neighborhood and city, and is active with Logan Square Preservation.
