About
Jim Bushong is an Architect and Senior Associate at FXFOWLE, with over a decade of experience on significant projects throughout the world. These project types range from high-rise commercial and multi-family residential to cultural, institutional and transportation. As a designer, Jim prides himself on seeing a project from concept through completion, understanding that the proper execution of a building’s details are equally important to the realization of concept.
A selection of Jim’s recent projects include 888 Boylston Street, a new 425,000 sf mixed-use office building in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston, MA. The building is crafted to optimize the indoor environment, office planning flexibility, and building performance, and is targeting LEED Platinum Certification. He has also recently completed work on the new Statue of Liberty Museum on Liberty Island. Conceived as an extension of the island's historic park, the building's angular forms and spaces are shaped to frame views of the Statue of Liberty and the New York City skyline, and to engage with the park's axial plan in response to its spectacular setting.
Jim received his Master of Architecture, Bachelor of Science in Architecture, and a Historic Preservation Certificate from the University of Cincinnati, where his thesis project titled “Environmentally Responsive Skyscraper Design” received the Best in Show and the Green Honor Award from the AIA Cincinnati. As Education Committee Chair for the CTBUH Young Professionals Group, Jim works closely with universities and faculty to craft workshops and reviews that encourage collaboration between different specialties within the building trades. The intent is to prepare students to better understand the realities of the workplace prior to leaving school.
