As the Director of Technical Design Services at SCB, Fernando oversees the firm’s quality management, sustainable design, specifications services, and library resources to provide technical leadership during the design and execution of projects. With 30+ years of experience focused on the design, documentation, and implementation of high-performance buildings, his expertise includes large-scale multifamily residential, mixed-use, hospitality, aviation, commercial office, healthcare, science and technology, and higher education projects. Fernando leads SCB’s Building Science Working Group to enhance in-house integration of science and design while studying trends in technology and process as well as monitoring solutions to common challenges.
Fernando currently serves as a Designated Expert for SCB on the Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), participates with the Chicago Committee on High Rise Buildings (CCHRB), and serves as the acting Past Chair of the Board of Directors for the Building Enclosure Council of Chicago (BECC). He has also served on the Board of Directors for the Chicago Chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) as Chair of Programs. He is certified with the National Council of Architectural Registration Board (NCARB), is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and is a registered City of Chicago Energy Professional. Fernando has presented on integrated design and high-performance enclosures at AIA and CSI professional development seminars and conferences.
