Christopher Meyer is an Assistant Professor at the University of Miami School of Architecture [U|SoA] and co-founding principal of the Miami based architecture firm Atelier Mey. Rooted in pedagogical frameworks, academic inquiries act as provocations for the practice of Atelier Mey, while the firm engages in partnerships with industry leaders and manufacturers for both speculative and built work. The work is inherently sustainable, and dedicated to craft. Augmenting the energy and environment dialogues Christopher is the director of the Littoral Urbanism Lab [LU_Lab] housed at the University of Miami School of Architecture. The LU_lab operates as a knowledge-gathering center and project-based design group focused on the evolving dialogue binding architecture, urbanism and the environment.

The work of Atelier Mey is interested in confronting the realities of the built environment while striving to be conscious and generative. Architectural explorations are informed by energetics, material and environmental narratives and driven through a collaborative design process. Ambitiously, Atelier Mey’s design process endeavors to balance an intellectual pursuit of architecture with the practicality in building assemblies, tectonics and making. Atelier Mey was named the AIA Miami Small Firm of the Year 2022 and as principals of Atelier Mey, Shawna and Christopher received a 2021 AIA Honor Award for Sustainable Architects of the Year from Miami AIA chapter. Atelier Mey are the authors (with Daniel Hemmindinger) of Buoyant Clarity Pamphlet Architecture 36 and responsible for the design and construction of the first mass timber structure in Miami-Dade County.
