Albert Wimmer studied architecture and town planning at the Technical University of Vienna and the Architectural Association in London. His “Atelier Albert Wimmer” studio was founded in 1977, the Albert Wimmer ZT GmbH in 2003.
Significant competition successes in Austria and abroad enabled the realization of major projects such as the “Freudenau” power-station of Vienna, the reorganization and revitalization of the city center of Leuven/Belgium, the Vienna Central Station as well as the master plans “Sonnwendviertel”, “Eurogate”, “Monte LAA“, "Haunstetten Südwest Augsburg“, "Thierfelderstraße“ and "Werftdreieck“ in Rostock/Germany. Further more the hospitals Clinic Floridsdorf, Südspidol in Luxembourg, the Children and Adolescents Clinic -University of Freiburg, Germany and the EURO stadiums Innsbruck, Klagenfurt, Salzburg and Lviv (Ukraine) as well as the new conference center at Vienna's UNO City.
In addition to qualitative requirements, the approach is primarily characterized by social, urban planning and ecological aspects. Over many years the studio of Albert Wimmer is experienced and skilled in interdisciplinary work.
He was chairman of the Architects for Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland (1989 to 1993), member of the board of the Vienna Urban Renewal and Land Provision Fund (1991-2002) and chairman of the Architects in the Künstlerhaus (1998-2007).
Albert Wimmer performs jury duties on an ongoing basis, lectures at national and international conferences/symposia/meetings and is a member of various design advisory boards. Since 2017, he has been a regular lecturer at the University of Salzburg and gives guest lectures at the Medical University of Graz and the FH Campus Vienna. He also manages complex, challenging urban planning procedures and their implementation.
