In October 2019, The Vanguard was approaching its final height. Rising a block north of the northeast corner of Yonge and Steeles, the Kirkor Architects-designed tower has recently topped out, reaching its final height of 27 stories. Just outside the Toronto City boundary, the building lies in the Markham community of Thornhill.

Clad with limestone-colored precast panels, blue-tinted windows, and black frames and mullions, the tower’s two contrasting façade treatments are beginning to become apparent, with the center of the tower volume characterized with a white tone, and the outer edges clad in dark materials. Cladding can also be seen applied to the mechanical penthouse levels, which have now been fully formed above the highest residential floors. 

Not often seen in residential buildings (compared to their office counterparts) the building is targeted to be LEED Gold certified with a number of environmentally sustainable features like built-in Tesla chargers, and a program that uses 35 percent renewable energy to power the building. Thirty percent of the materials used in construction are locally-sourced, slimming-down the portion of the building's carbon footprint coming from material transportation.

Devon is targeting a summer 2020 occupancy for the project.
