Pakistani Government Decides to Allow High-Rise Construction in Islamabad

13 February 2019 | Islamabad, Pakistan

The Pakistani government has decided to allow the construction of multi-story high-rise buildings in the federal capital, Islamabad. The departments and agencies concerned have been asked to formulate specific regulations to accommodate the change.

The decision was made at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan, Tuesday, February 12, 2019  at the Prime Minister’s Office. The decision was made due to an increase in population in Islamabad, the need to preserve green-areas, the desire to fulfill the economic and accommodation needs of the residents, and to spur investment opportunities for foreigners.

The Aviation Division and Capital Development Authority (CDA) have been asked to submit their detailed reports to identify the areas where high-rise buildings could not be built due to aviation hazards.

The CDA will formulate rules and regulations for granting permission to convert existing low-rise buildings into high-rise buildings. The CDA has been asked to submit its report for making the process of approval of design and other approvals through an automated system. The authority has been instructed to prepare a report to help build guidelines for the maximum allowable height of the buildings and for the construction of high-rise buildings in low-income areas.
