A block of more than 500 flats has been turned down by Croydon Council after fears it would impact on the town’s iconic 50p building. Plans to knock down City Link House in Addiscombe Road to make way for a 28-story tower were rejected by the council in late January, 2022.

The plans were submitted by Wittington Investments Limited and Fifth State in July 2021. The developer wanted to build a part 14, part 28-story building of 498 co-living apartments and 84 apartments.

To address concerns about the loss of office space, the applicant said it would include 3,500 square feet of space that could be used by local businesses and community organizations, as well as a separate cafe and co-working space. The plans included three car parking spaces for blue badge holders as well as 483 bicycle spaces.
