Mumbai Government Considers 62-Story High-Rise for the Navy
The 190-meter-tall residential high-rise, being built for the Indian Navy, could be among the tallest defense buildings in the country. A new defense building—a 62-story skyscraper—is set to redefine the skyline of Colaba, one of India’s most expensive neighborhoods, with the government inching closer to awarding a contract for the project, officials familiar with the development said in May 2022.
It will come up on a 7,500-square-meter plot with 220 apartments and is expected to be completed within 30 months of the contract being awarded. The upcoming navy residential complex in will have a built-up area of 72,200 square meters and will house officers of many ranks of command.
The new building code, which seeks to promote multi-story construction for optimization of defence land, is in line with the various government programmes as well as renewable energy trends.
