Cooper Robertson continues to advise on planning and design as the CA$1.15 billion (US$900 million) project moves towards phased completion. Rising to 81 stories, M City’s third tower, designed by IBI Group, will become the city’s tallest once complete and will add nearly 900 residential units to this rapidly urbanizing area. As Mississauga continues to attract new residents, local officials believe that the growth of this underdeveloped site will put forward a bold and forward-looking urbanist vision.

“Mississauga has realized that long-term success requires long-range planning," says Donald Clinton, AIA, MRAIC, LEED AP, partner at Cooper Robertson and a leading planner of mixed-use districts. "By emphasizing a pedestrian-centric community with a vital mix of uses, smart, sensitive developments such as M City show that seemingly conflicting urban issues of growth and livability actually have the potential to converge in positive ways.”

Over the next decade, the project is anticipated to bring 10 buildings' worth of mixed-use residential and commercial space, over two acres (0.8 hectares) of new public parkland designed by landscape architects The Planning Partnership, as well as connections to new public transit networks, all reflecting Mississauga leaders' bold vision for this transforming city in the greater Toronto metropolitan area.

Cooper Robertson's framework for M City is the latest in a long line of significant large-scale planning and urban design works, such as New York City’s Battery Park City and Hudson Yards, the recently completed Roberts Center for Pediatric Research campus at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and the upcoming 418-acre (169-hectare) Riverton mixed-use district in New Jersey, as well as major European commissions such as Barcelona’s Diagonal Mar and Val d’Europe in France.
