Japan's Tallest Tower Tops Out In Toranomon, Tokyo

The 64-story skyscraper in the Toranomon-Azabudai Project topped out at 325.2 meters on April 21, 2022. This is now the tallest building in Japan, exceeding Osaka’s 300-meter tall Abeno Harukas building.

Construction of the as-yet-unnamed building in Block A of Mori Building’s multi-billion dollar redevelopment project in central Tokyo began in 2019, although the developer has been patiently buying up land in this area since the 1980s.

Adorning the top of the building will be a full-floor penthouse apartment rumored to be priced around 20 billion ¥ (approx. US$156 million). The Aman Residences, Tokyo will be located on floors 54 to 64, with 91 luxuriously-appointed two- to six-bedroom condominiums. Pelli Clarke & Partners designed the building with the interiors of the residences designed by Yabu Pushelberg.

The entire Toranomon-Azabudai Project covers an 8.1-hectare site near Tokyo Tower with office space for up to 20,000 workers, 1,400 apartments housing up to 3,500 residents, the Janu Tokyo hotel, 150 shops and restaurants, a 4,000 sqm food market, and the British School (to be the largest international school in central Tokyo).

Completion is scheduled for 2023.
