High-rise Under Construction Catches Fire in West Palm Beach
A high-rise building under construction caught fire before noon on Wednesday, 14 February in downtown West Palm Beach, according to reports.
A battalion chief with the West Palm Beach Fire Department said the fire, which was reported at about 11:40 a.m., occurred on the 15th floor of the One Flagler building. About 30 firefighters with the West Palm Beach Fire Department responded the the scene. About 220 construction workers who were on-site safely evacuated. No injuries have been reported.
Officials with the West Palm Beach Fire Department said the construction crews used a fire extinguisher to knock down the blaze. The battalion chief said the fire was extinguished by 12:30 p.m.The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The office building that will reach 25 stories is scheduled to open this summer.
