Construction of Paris’ Triangle Tower Approved

08 May 2019 | Paris, France

The first stone of a controversial Paris building must be laid before the beginning of next year, now that a court has ruled that the Triangle Tower’s building permit was “not unlawful.”

The administrative court has validated the Triangle Tower’s construction in the south of Paris, which will host a luxury hotel and offices in a building approximately 180 meters tall with 42 stories, according to a decision released on 6 May, 2019.

“The building permit of the Triangle Tower is not tainted with illegality,” says the court in its decision, rejecting the appeals of three associations: SOS Paris, France Nature Environment Ile-de-France and Association for Harmonious Development of the Porte de Versailles and its surroundings.

The groups felt that the impact study of the project was “insufficient” and the procedures were flawed, and the court rejected the argument. In addition, the administrative court stated that the “City of Paris has not committed a manifest error of assessment in considering that the project of the Triangle Tower is not likely to affect the character or interest neighboring places  and monuments.”

“The Triangle Tower is part of these new buildings that represent the new Paris”, said one of the defenders of the project, the deputy mayor of Paris in charge of urban planning, Jean-Louis Missika.

Swiss Architects Herzog and de Meuron will design the four-star, 120-room hotel, which will include a sky bar, 2,200 square meters of coworking space, and 540 square meters of cultural exhibition space.
