On May 21, 2020, hotel developer and operator APA Group held the groundbreaking ceremony for a 1,001-room hotel and 212-unit condo development in Niigata City. This will be among the largest mixed-use hotel and residential development in East Japan. The 19-story hotel is scheduled to be completed by March 2022, with the apartments to be ready by the following August. Hotel facilities will include a large bath, outdoor rotenburo bath, pool, and gym. Apartment owners will be able to access these facilities at a discounted price. APA is developing similarly-sized projects in thirteen locations across Japan, including Ishikawa and Toyama prefectures. Although the current coronavirus pandemic is having a devastating impact on hotels and hospitality providers, APA has a 30-50 year outlook for their developments.
The site is located in the Bandai district. APA acquired the land from Panasonic in 2006.
