CTBUH Holds Virtual Signboard Ceremony for THE ICON, Certifying it as the Tallest All-Duplex Residential Building in Shenzhen
In April 2020, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) verified the 161.9-meter THE ICON as the tallest all-duplex residential building in Shenzhen with an official signboard.
CTBUH Chairman, Steve Watts, Partner, alinea Consulting; CTBUH Vice President of Academic Affairs & Strategic Partnerships, Peng Du; and Chen Zhijian, Deputy General Manager, Guangdong Citymark Real Estate Co., attended the virtual ceremony, where Du awarded the official certification of the title to Chen, the project representative.
Watts then commended Guangdong Citymark Real Estate and the many contributors to the project on their achievement. “The Council is very pleased to certify THE ICON as the tallest all-duplex residential building in Shenzhen. THE ICON not only adds a new dimension to the skyline of its amazing home city, but also allows this unique form to merge into globalized Shenzhen in a pure and elegant way,” he said.
CTBUH China Office Associate Director in Academic Affairs Zhendong Wang, Professor, Tongji University; THE ICON architect Benjack Philips, Executive Director, AECOM; interior designer Ricky Wong, Ricky Wong Design; and Joe Cheng, Founder, CCD, also offered their congratulations via video.
Located in the heart of Shenzhen Bay, THE ICON is integrated with International Headquarters Base, Houhai Financial Center, Talent Park, Shenzhen Bay Coastal Leisure Belt, Coastal City, and the MixC shopping mall. The building’s L-shaped layout, in conjunction with its full-glass curtain wall, maximizes ventilation, access to natural light, and views for each residential unit. Each of the 215 duplex units is equipped with an in-depth smart home system. The upper and lower levels of each dwelling are defined by both dynamic and static partitions, offering flexible configurations that conform to the differing needs of its occupants.
