2024 International Conference Launch Event

CTBUH Spain recently hosted an invigorating launch event for the upcoming CTBUH 2024 International Conference, "New or Renew: Addressing the Density Dilemma," 23–27 September, in London and Paris. 23.

 

The half-day event was held a the Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Madrid (COAM).

 

 

With an attendance of around 170 people, the half-day function had attendees explore the emerging trends in cities today, exchange insights, and network to collectively address the pivotal question: "What's the best path to be sustainable and future-proof?"

To start the event, Iñigo Ortiz Diez de Tortosa, Co-Founder of Ortiz.Leon Arquitectos and CTBUH Regional Representative, gave a warm welcome to all who came. CTBUH President Antony Wood gave an opening presentation titled "New or Renew: Present and Future of Cities," and emphasized the evolving role of skyscrapers in shaping sustainable vertical cities. He was followed by Naiara Vegara, Metropoli CitiesLab Director at Metropoli Group, who shared projects in Europe that showcased design dialogues of different scales that orient the character of densification patterns, and explored new concepts to foster sustainable density solutions. Mark John Fenwick, Co-Founder and Architect at Fenwick Iribarren Architects, spoke about 

" Educational Centers & High-Rise Buildings" using the example of the IE Campus in Madrid as a new vertical urban campus. Javier Sesma, Senior Vice President - Global Business Development at TK Elevator, gave an engaging presentation on mobility designed with humans in mind to help inhabitants move and go to places easy to make them more livable and seamlessly connected. In closing the day,  María Concepción Pérez Gutiérrez, PhD Architect and Structural Analysis Professor at the Higher Polytechnic School CEU San Pablo University, and Ortiz Diez de Torosa gave final remarks on high-rise buildings and the future of Madrid.
