On a rainy Chicago Wednesday, April 7, the CTBUH gathered with members of the Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago project team for the inauguration of the building signboard which recognizes Trump Tower’s place in the international tall building world, according to CTBUH height criteria. The sign recognizes the 423 meter / 1,389 feet skyscraper as:

• the tallest building in the world with an all-concrete structure
• the 2nd tallest building in North America
• the 6th tallest building in the world at the time of completion (21st October 2009)

Located on the sidewalk next to the main entrance to Trump on Wabash Avenue, the stainless steel sign stands four feet tall and three feet wide on top of a stone base. The sign was initiated by the CTBUH and designed in cooperation with the Trump Tower project team. In attendance at the inauguration were: Andrew Weiss, executive vice president for the Trump Organization (building owner/developer); Paul James, Senior Vice President at Bovis Lend Lease (contractors); Richard Tomlinson, partner at Skidmore Owings and Merrill (architects/engineers); and Antony Wood, Executive Director of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. As a token of appreciation, Mr. Wood presented a copy of the brand new first edition of the CTBUH 2010 Tall Buildings Reference Guide to the project team after the brief inauguration.
