Valerie Chan has over 20 years of experience as a fire engineer, with work experience in the UK, Hong Kong and New Zealand. She started her career as a building services engineer, which provided a solid foundation for successful working and collaboration in an inter-disciplinary built environment. She has a wide-ranging project experience, from rail infrastructure to tall mixed-use development in the UK and East Asia. One of her earlier building projects was the Shard in London, whereby she and her team designed the use of lifts for evacuation from high-rise buildings. The Shard is one of the early adopters elevator evacuation. Her recent work involves renovation and rectification of healthcare facilities for NHS Trusts and leading the fire safety design for a large railway station in London.
