Steven Edgett is President and co-founder of Edgett Williams Consulting Group, a California elevator consulting practice incorporated 1986. He has been actively involved in elevator consulting for over thirty years and has been associated with the elevator business for more than forty years.

Mr. Edgett was Director of the Building Transportation Department for Jaros Baum & Bolles in New York City and managed the Building Transportation Department for architects Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in San Francisco. Mr. Edgett began his career as an engineer for a California-based elevator manufacturing concern and has served as a safety engineer for the State of California Elevator Division.

Mr. Edgett has been active in Chinese work for more than twenty years, beginning with the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Headquarters in Beijing. Among his notable work in China are the Bank of China and Poly Group Headquarters buildings in Beijing, the Jin Mao and Shanghai Center Towers in Shanghai, Poly International in Guangzhou and numerous other major commercial and mixed-use projects throughout urban China.

Mr. Edgett has been involved in the design of vertical transportation systems worldwide on such diverse projects as the new Yankee Stadium, Apple Flagship store in Manhattan, the re-activation of the “Top of the Rock” observation deck at Rockefeller Center and, in collaboration with with Jaros Baum & Bolles the elevator design for eight million square feet in three new office towers planned at the New York World Trade Center site. An early adopter of destination-based elevator control systems, Mr. Edgett completed the first multi-tenant building with this system in the U.S, in 1999 and has recently been involved in the conversion of two existing properties in Asia, one in Hong Kong and one in Singapore, from conventional to full destination controls. In October of 2001, Mr. Edgett served on CTBUH’s 9/11 Task Force to ascertain the lessons to be learned from the 9/11 tragedy.
