Sihan has deep expertise and more than 15 years of experience in wind engineering for tall buildings and large-span structures, risk and reliability assessment, climate adaptation, and resilience. He has worked on wind engineering and risk consultation for many tall buildings and unique structures. Some of his research has been used to update a few international design codes and standards.
Sihan earned his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Western Ontario. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, a Member of the ASCE and CSCE, and a designated Risk Management Associate with RIMS. He has published over 40 papers, been a peer reviewer for several esteemed journals, such as Nature Communications, Structural Safety, and Applied Meteorology and Climatology, and won the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering’s Casimir Gzowski Medal Medal in 2015. He serves on several committees for codes and standards, such as ASCE 7, NBCC; strategic committees, such as ASCE-NOAA Task Force on Climate Resilience in Engineering Practice; technical committees, such as ASCE CTA Committee on Adaptation to a Changing Climate; and regional councils, such as the Asian Civil Engineering Coordinating Council.
