Ms. Ni is a Sustainability Engineer at Ozinga. She consults with the Specification Group, Quality Control (QC), Sales and marketing with their needs, while evaluating new products and verifying the performance, reviewing literature, certifications, and standards. As well as manage LEED/EPD initiatives and the company’s other sustainability goals. Being at Ozinga since 2018 as an intern, Ms. Ni has had roles in various departments, such as QC and R&D. She has earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Ms. Ni has active roles in National Ready Mix Concrete Association’s (NRMCA) Sustainability Promotions committee, ACI (American Concrete Institute) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). As a QC intern, she was exposed to the onsite scene of producing concrete. She gained skills in materials testing and inspection and testing procedures for quality assurance. She then worked as a Concrete Materials Lab Technician in the Research & Development (R&D) Department. There, she performed a variety of different concrete testing procedures on in house lab specimens, while assisting in some preliminary mortar research on different SCM’s. During her time in R&D, she also worked on a project with Nike, utilizing recycled ground up Nike shoes as aggregate in concrete.
In her current role, she has worked as a project manager on projects such as the Obama Presidential Ceneter as well as working to on the company’s sustainability goals. She researches current trends in sustainability for concrete production. In these endeavors she audits and oversees all LEED & EPD requests & submittals. This has led her to provide education and training across the organization’s departments, conducting Lunch & Learns for architects, engineers, and contractors. Her work alongside the specifications group allows her to gain insight into the industry’s direction and she provides sustainable alternatives. She specializes in concrete decarbonization and focuses on developing and implementing strategies to reduce the carbon footprint of concrete production and usage.
