Ricardo Pimentel is a chartered engineer with primary expertise in the stability and strength of steel and composite structures. Currently, Ricardo works as a Technical Director at Pell Frischmann, a multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy with over 90 years of experience in the built environment. Ricardo splits his time between project work and R&D activities, involving structural efficiency and low-carbon strategies, being also responsible for championing technical excellence within the building's business unit.
His past working experiences include a steelwork contractor, a structural engineering consultancy and The Steel Construction Institute (SCI), a world-leading steel and composite construction research and development institute.
Having completed a Master in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Steel and Composite Structures at the University of Coimbra, Ricardo is currently a PhD candidate at the same institution with a research topic on steel-timber hybrid floors.
During his career, Ricardo developed practical experience in steel, steel-concrete composite, timber and concrete structures. His design experience includes steel equipment, industrial buildings, multi-storey buildings, sports facilities with long-span roofs, pedestrian bridges, road bridges and bespoke offshore mooring equipment.
Ricardo is a corresponding member of the ECCS/TC11 (Composite Structures), a member of the newly established working group for steel-timber composite structures ECCS/TC11/WG6 and a member of the BSI CB/203/-/4 (EN 1993-1-8 UK working group).
