About
Ricardo Pimentel is a chartered engineer with primary expertise in the stability and strength of steel and composite structures. Ricardo works as a Technical Director at Pell Frischmann, a multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy with over 90 years of experience in the built environment. He splits his time between project work and R&D activities, involving structural efficiency and low-carbon strategies, being also responsible for championing technical excellence within the building's business unit.
His past working experiences include working for a steelwork contractor and The Steel Construction Institute (SCI). At the SCI, among other subjects, Ricardo developed guidance to enable structural steelwork reuse.
His design experience includes steel equipment, industrial buildings, multi-storey buildings, sports facilities with long-span roofs, pedestrian bridges, road bridges, bespoke offshore mooring equipment, among others.
Having completed a Master in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Steel and Composite Structures at the University of Coimbra, Ricardo is currently a PhD candidate at the same institution with a research topic on steel-timber hybrid floors.
Ricardo is a member of the British Standards Institution (BSI) working groups CB/203/-/3 (steel structures), CB/203/-/4 (steel connections), B/252/04 (composite structures), European Convention for Constructional Steelwork (ECCS) Technical Committee ECCS/TC11 (Composite Structures), ECCS/TC11/WG6 (steel-timber structures) and Portuguese Institute of Quality (IPQ) working groups CT 115/SC 003 (steel structures), and CT 115/SC 004 (composite structures).
