About

Priyan Mendis is a Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Melbourne and a structural engineering consultant. He worked as a Structural Engineer at Connell Wagner Ltd in Melbourne before joining the University of Melbourne in the 1990s. He has been an expert consultant for the design of tall buildings in Australia and overseas, including some of the tallest buildings in the world, and an active participant in CTBUH since the early 1990s. He is presently involved in the fire design and protection of several high-rises. Professor Mendis is the leader of the Advanced Protective Technology of Structures (APTES) group at the University. He also serves as a key member of the Australian Concrete Code Committee and the fire performance sub-committee, and has developed guidelines for fire protection -- especially for spalling of concrete members.
