Ola Johansson has more than two decades of structural engineering experience, serving as lead designer and project manager for high-profile projects around the globe. He received his master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Lund and his master’s degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Colorado—Boulder. Ola is a licensed professional engineer in several states, including California, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, North Carolina, Texas and Washington. He is also a Registered California Emergency Management Agency Safety Assessment Program Evaluator and certified by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying.

Throughout his career Ola has served as lead designer and project manager for high-profile projects including mid- and high-rise commercial, residential, hospitality and mixed-use developments, with specialized expertise in the application of performance-based design solutions for high-rise structures. His credits include the 35-story residential tower Perla on Broadway in Los Angeles and EDITION West Hollywood hotel and condominium, both in California; the 32-story Austin Proper Hotel & Residences in Texas; and Greenwater Block 185, Google’s headquarters in Austin, Texas. From his base in Los Angeles, Ola is also involved with Pacific Rim projects, such as the ITC One Hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka, which features south Asia’s first skybridge, and several projects in the Philippines, including several high-rise towers such as The Finance Centre in the Bonifacio Global City area of Manila, which utilizes performance-based design. Ola joined Thornton Tomasetti in 2013 after 15 years with Magnusson Klemencic Associates. His work there included Doha Tower in Qatar, which was the second-tallest building in the world at the time of design, and One Rincon Hill in San Francisco.

Ola is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California; the American Society of Civil Engineers; the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute; and the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat.
