Dr Michael Kinsey is a Chartered Fire Engineer and an Associate Director at Ashton Fire in the UK. As well as supporting design teams both within the UK and internationally, he specializes in applying understanding/tools and conducting research associated with modelling human behavior in emergencies to improve building design. He is an active writer of scientific conference/journal papers associated with evacuation modelling and human behavior in fire. He is also on the SFPE Human Behavior task group, co-author of the 2nd Edition of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers Guide to Human Behavior, and is on the ISO TC92/SC4/WG4 developing international protocols for evacuation model verification/validation. He is also a Visiting Lecturer of the Built Environment at Birmingham City University where he lectures on the BEng Fire Engineering program about human behavior in fire and evacuation modelling and has also given guest lectures at a number of universities the UK, US, Canada, and China.
