After qualifying as a building services design engineer with the CIBSE, Matthew Durdin spent a decade at the fore front of hospital services, involved in designing and project management on many large acute regional hospitals. He moved into building management systems technology running a system integration business whilst continuing to study computer science and technology innovation.

Durdin entered into the commercial field with a software integration provider and then with a major global company specializing in life safety systems and BMS within “‘Smart Buildings”’. During this time, he led the team engaging with global airports, ports and terminals as well as offices and hospitality via strong links with the FM sector.

Joining ABB 2 years ago to lead global business development of smart building automation, Durdin brings a full understanding of all aspects of technology in the built environment as well as practical experience in the supply chain.
