About
Mathew is a Director at JPW with expertise across the disciplines of urban design, strategic planning, architectural design, and construction, which he has developed through his involvement across many award-winning projects in Australia and New Zealand.
Some of these projects include the Britomart Precinct, Auckland (2006-2011), the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra (2009), the Australian War Memorial Eastern Precinct (2011), White Bay Cruise Passenger Terminal (2013) and the redevelopment of 5 Martin Place, Sydney (2015), which saw the adaptive re-use of one of Australia's most significant heritage buildings to deliver a state-of-the-art contemporary workplace and revitalise the surrounding civic core of Sydney.
More recently, Mathew has led JPW’s involvement in the design and delivery of Parramatta Square (2013 – 2023), a soon to be completed $3.2 billion urban regeneration project that will establish a world class mixed-use precinct and vital civic meeting place for the broader city and region. The project includes what will be Greater Sydney’s largest commercial tower, and the delivery of a precinct-wide approach to workplace and placemaking that sets new benchmarks in quality, sustainability and amenity for the city.
In 2021, Mathew was a jury member for the Australian Institute of Architects Awards in the Urban Design and Commercial categories, and is currently directing JPW’s involvement in several significant, city-making urban design and architectural projects in capital and regional cities across Australia.
Mathew is passionate about the advancement of our cities, and the contribution that excellence in the design, delivery and function of buildings and urban precincts can make to improve the quality of life of those who occupy them, and to a more sustainable future for our planet more broadly.
