Markus Kaplan (born 1972 in Salzburg) is an expert in hotel, residential and urban construction and lives in Vienna. After training as a structural draughtsman in Dortmund, he obtained his degree in architecture at Graz University of Technology.
He has been with BWM Architekten und Partner ZT GmbH since its inception in 2004 and joined the management team in 2014. Since 2012 he has been a shareholder and founder of Grätzl Betriebs GmbH and a shareholder of URBANAUTS Hospitality GmbH, which operates the grätzlhotels (named “Hotelier of the Year” in 2016 for the innovative hotel concept).
Markus brings his extensive know-how to bear when designing projects – from residential buildings to hotel complexes – and is the primary contact person for project developers. Social and cultural sustainability combined with diversity are of central importance to him. He frequently speaks at congresses on topics relating to hotels, architecture and urban development, and in 2021 he was appointed to the Advisory Committee for Urban Design in Linz for a term of two years.
He is married, has four children and plays in the firm’s own jazz band together with his BWM partner Erich Bernard. Markus is also a keen sailor.
