Mr. Kim joined POSCO in 2011, where he began his career in training new employees and planning strategy and KPIs at Gwangyang Steelworks - known as the world’s largest steel mill - for the first four years.
He later transitioned into research and design at steel solution R&D center, working on various projects from industrial product design to steel panel system development.
His focus has been on collaborating with architects and fabricators to create aesthetic and yet eco-friendly steel construction façade designs.
He played key role for the first in Korea to apply non-standard steel panels to a department store building façade renovation project in 2021. Working closely with the client, architect, fabricator, coater and contractor for the whole process, he implemented the sculptural value of parametric design and comprehensively achieved surface performance such as corrosion resistance and structural performance such as wind pressure resistance that the steel panel system should have. He also quantified the amount of societal carbon emissions reduction and demonstrated the eco-friendliness of steel product compared to other materials from a lifecycle perspective.
Recently, he’s been focusing on designing public facilities using generative AI design tools and developing new panel products system for a global electronics company‘s prefabricated second house platform.
He majored in product and space design at Seoul National University in Korea and holds a bachelor's and master's degree in industrial design.
