Lina Cantin is a lawyer, MBA, professor and a doctoral researcher (LL.D. Candidate) at the Ivanhoé Cambridge Real Estate Chair, School of Management, University of Québec at Montreal, a research-innovation university chair dedicated to developing knowledge and skills in real estate. Lina is a well-known and recognized expert in the commercial real estate industry. Lina’s doctoral research (LL.D.) focuses on Land use, territorial governance, property rights and institutional investors’ roles in global real estate. Lina teaches Real Estate Civil and Statutory Law, Property Management’s Regulatory Framework, Specialized Building Management, including Mixed-Use Tall Buildings.
Lina has worked for the last decade as corporate counsel for private holdings within the commercial real estate industry. She has been involved in all aspects of real estate transactions, including negotiation, leasing, purchasing, due diligence, disposition, governance and trustee issues related to investment and portfolio management.
Prior to 2008, she worked in International and Corporate Affairs for a Crown Corporation in Ottawa and in Montreal. Involved in International Trade and Business Development, she negotiated agreements with private and public sector organizations; acting as plenipotentiary representative of the Government of Canada, representing Canada’s interests at international fora and she served as Canada’s Strategy Coordinator for a United Nations’ Agency Congress in Asia. She participated in the development of a temporary solution for terminal dues (payment compensation between countries) harmonizing UN Agency’s regulatory framework with international business requirements.
Lina holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) and became a member of the Québec Bar in 1993. Her passion for real estate issues has enabled her to obtain a Master of Business Administration (MBA), specialized in Real Estate from the School of Management ESG UQAM (Montreal, Canada, 2013), as well as an International MBA from the University Paris Dauphine (Paris, France, 2013). She has been awarded the CREW (Commercial Real Estate for Women) Montreal Rising Star Award in 2014.
