Dr. Kate Nguyen is a Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne. She is an expert on Materials Engineering with a focus on fire performance of materials and structures. Kate has completed a PhD in Civil Engineering on Fire behavior of tall building façades working with Permasteelisa Pty Ltd. She is the leader of the Innovative Fire Engineering (IFE) Group at the University of Melbourne and presently involved in a number of projects on fire design and protection of buildings in Australia and overseas. She is also leading a project on Innovative Building Façade Systems sponsored by CSR Pty Ltd. Her invention of using nano-clay to improve the fire performance of composite façades in tall buildings has received world-wide attention. She has also received media coverage with radio interviews and other invited presentations on façade fires.
