About
With more than 40 years of experience, Joe is a passionate advocate for the deeper integration of architecture and engineering, which he promotes through technical innovation in the design of structural systems, collaboration in practice and leadership in building science education. A member of Thornton Tomasetti’s board of directors, Mr. Burns is a Managing Principal, and has overseen the firm’s practice areas as well as its operations in Europe, the Middle East, India and Brazil. He resides in Chicago, where he maintains an active consulting practice.
A Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, American Society of Civil Engineers, The Institution of Structural Engineers (UK) and International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering, he was also named to Engineering News-Record‘s (ENR) Top 25 Newsmakers.
