Johnson was involved in Arup's in-house global Net zero energy and decarbonisation researches on Fire safety related to EVs and their charging units in car park environments, including Fire Risk Analysis and related Fire Protection Technology.

Emerging technologies can result in unintended consequences or new solutions to existing problems. For many years, car parks have installed fire suppression systems and other fire safety measures to deal with fires caused by internal combustion engines (ICEs). It is important to note that these fire safety provisions were not built with Electric Vehicles (EVs) or Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in mind.
