Joanna Cieslikowska
is a Chicago-based architectural designer working at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. Joanna's interest in green building solutions began during her master's studies in the Netherlands, where she presented a concept for a 34-story timber tower. The high-rise is a concrete-timber hybrid that introduces new technical methods to optimize building's performance. In 2020, Joanna was awarded the first prize in the Ideas Forward 24H competition that focused on reducing C02 emissions. Her team proposed a green residential tower as an innovative solution for the construction, which aims at closing the life cycle of a building and makes it fully recyclable. Joanna graduated with a BSc in Architecture and Urban Planning from the Warsaw University of Technology in 2018 and with a MSc from Delft University of Technology in 2020. She is in search of alternative construction materials and remains active in research initiatives on renewable resources, such as bamboo.
