About
Jeff Herzer is an independent writer, producer and media developer with a passion for storytelling and for the tools and technology used to create electronic media – both the message and the medium. His professional background includes work as a broadcast journalist in both television and radio, and as a writer and producer of web, video and interactive media for the Architecture/Engineering/Planning industry. Projects in which Jeff has been involved have been recognized with awards from the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS), Web Marketing Association, International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and The Communicator Awards.
A Chicago area native, Jeff earned his degree in Radio-Television at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and also attended the DePaul University School of Music. He is presently working on his Master’s degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at Northwest Missouri State University.
Jeff was the creator of “WTB/World’s Tallest Buildings”, one of the Internet’s first prominent web sites on the subject of supertall buildings, which appeared on the Internet from 1997 to 2001. “I was pretty upset that someone on the other side of the planet was building something taller than Sears Tower, and I was being left out,” says Jeff, who began the web site as a way to trade for photos of the Petronas Towers. With a blend of original content, interviews, correspondence from a worldwide audience and according to one reviewer, “a delightfully quirky take” on the subject, WTB gained international attention and was cited or featured in a number of media outlets, including USA Today, Time Magazine-Asia, The Discovery Channel-Canada, Asahi Shimbun (Tokyo) and two editions of the World Almanac.
Still a journalist at heart, Jeff periodically brings his unique voice to CTBUH as an interviewer and as a writer and producer of podcasts, audio productions and other projects.
