James Adams is the founder of Maconda Solutions, a London based circular economy consultancy. James worked in construction and reuse over the last decade, including on notable commercial schemes such as 80 Charlotte street, the UK’s first net-zero development by Derwent London. James also led the UK’s first Material Passport pilot on the One Nine Elms scheme in partnership with global builder Multiplex.

A specialist in the use of Material Passports as well as the practices and processes needed to implement circular economy across the built environment, James works with clients such as Nuveen Real Estate, Multiplex, Skanska and Eric Parry Architects. Applying the circular economy model to housing is of special interest to James and he is developing a number of pilot projects in the residential sector, with clients such as The Crown Estate, Clarion Housing Group, GS8, and the City of London Corporation.

James has a particular focus on law and policy and works closely with academia to advance research and policy. He is a regular contributor to industry initiatives, such as the Lancaster University / ORMS Policy Paper on Accelerating Reuse and is a founding industry stakeholder of BuildZero initiative to answer how the material demands of the UK’s building stock can be met without new raw material extraction.
