Studying a Masters in Architectural Engineering in the UK and USA, Charles has always had an appetite for integrated design and has transferred his ambition to successfully leading some of AKT II’s most complex urban developments.
As a Director, Charlie offers a broad strategic experience in ensuring best-practice design and delivery at the project-wide level. In the UK and overseas Charles has led a breadth of complex developments from an early strategic approach all the way through to delivery of construction documents. Highlights include 240 Blackfriars, a complex sloping and trapezoidal tower in Central London and Project Maple, a new, sustainable and community-driven mixed-use destination set to become Europe’s tallest residential tower.
Charles has extensive experience in residential and high-rise buildings, collaborating with renowned architects such as Zaha Hadid, Herzog & de Meuron, and KPF. His portfolio includes iconic projects like the Central Bank of Iraq in Baghdad, a 172-meter landmark tower featuring a striking column-free exoskeleton, and One Park Drive, a 210-meter residential tower in Canary Wharf, London, known for its evolving, staggered façade.
Other standout residential projects include One Nine Elms, a pair of towers situated along the River Thames, which straddle a Victorian sewer, and One Crown Place, a unique development featuring two hybrid concrete residential towers supported above a steel-framed office podium, with exposed steel trusses integrated into the living spaces.
Charles has also led complex refurbishment and reinvention projects such as Norton Folgate in Shoreditch, a collection of existing timber/masonry warehouses up to 150 years old seamlessly integrated with a mixture of new mixed-use office and retail buildings and 100 Liverpool Street, which included the addition of 3 storeys to an existing steel frame, increasing NIA by over 45% without strengthening foundations and becoming one of the first net zero carbon development in London.
