Brian McElhatten is an Associate Principal and leads Arup Chicago’s structural group. He has worked around the world throughout his career on notable projects including the 70-story Pearl River Tower in Guangzhou, China; the 450m Zifeng Tower in Nanjing, China; four 60+ story towers in New York City; two 100+ story towers in South Korea, as well as numerous other building types. Previously, Brian was an associate director of structural engineering for Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. He served as the project engineer on multiple, simultaneous projects and oversaw engineers in the Chicago and New York City offices.
With his diverse background, Brian brings a wide range of skills and leadership to Arup, and possesses broad experience in all phases of design and construction. He has extensive knowledge of tall building systems, analysis, design and construction.
