Aleksander Kozłowski is a full professor in the Department of Building Structures of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Architecture at the Rzeszów University of Technology, Poland. He worked as a Visiting Professor at Beira Interior University, Portugal, 2002 – 2004.
He is an author and coauthor of seven monographs, three academic books, 89 journal articles, and 157 scientific conference papers. He was supervisor of 7 PhD dissertation.
He is Vice Chair of the Committee on Civil Engineering (KILiW) at the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), Chairman of the Commission for Tall Buildings in the Committee on Civil Engineering (KILiW), and Chairman of the Metal Structures Section in the Committee on Civil Engineering (KILiW).
He is a member of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), Technical Committees of the Polish Committee for Standardisation (PKN), a member of WG1, WG8, and WG14 of CEN/TC250/SC3, and a member of TC 10 Structural Connection in ECCS (European Convention for Constructional Steelwork).
He was a member of the Scientific and Steering Committee of European Conferences on Steel Structures EUROSTEEL, in Coimbra, Maastricht, Graz, Budapest, Napoli, Copenhagen, Sheffield, and Amsterdam.
He participated in a few European research projects in the framework of the Research Fund for Coal and Steel: “Renovation of Buildings using Steel Technologies” ROBUST; “Promotion of New Eurocode Rules for Structural Stainless Steel” (PUREST); “Mitigation of the risk of progressive collapse in steel and composite building frames under exceptional events” (FAILNOMORE).
He is also a professional engineer with the following: License of Professional Engineer in building structures, 1986 and License of Government Consultant and Expert, 1999. He was a designer on about 100 steel and concrete structures, and 140 expert opinions and consulting on steel and concrete structures.
Research field: analysis of stiffness, stability, and strength of steel and composite structures with semi-rigid joints, advanced modelling and optimisation of framed building structures, behaviour of the structure in the case of over-normative loading and impacts (robustness).
