CTBUH Names constructsteel as Platinum Sustainability Partner

Global steel construction network joins tall-building authority to advance low-carbon, circular strategies for high-rise urban development.

10 April 2025, Chicago—The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) today announced constructsteel as the Platinum Partner for its 2025 Sustainability Initiative, a year-long program focused on advancing ESG practices, reducing carbon emissions and driving innovation in sustainable tall building design and construction.

The CTBUH 2025 Sustainability Initiative brings together global leaders and researchers to address the most urgent challenges in climate resilience, decarbonization and material performance. As Platinum Sustainability Partner, constructsteel will play a strategic role in advancing this mission through thought leadership and global engagement.

“The global shift toward sustainable building materials is essential in addressing climate change, and constructsteel’s leadership in this space is invaluable,” explained CTBUH CEO Javier Quintana de Uña. “By integrating advanced steel technologies and fostering industry-wide adoption of low-carbon solutions, constructsteel is helping to redefine the sustainability agenda for high-rise construction. We are thrilled to welcome them as a key partner in our 2025 Sustainability Initiative.”

Advancing low-carbon innovation through steel

A World Steel Association initiative, constructsteel is the leading global platform for promoting the use of steel in construction. Representing eighteen members—including steel producers, steel manufacturers and construction associations—constructsteel leads international efforts to position steel as a key material for reducing carbon impact in the built environment.

As the ultimate circular material, steel can be reused, reduced, remanufactured and recycled, significantly reducing embodied and operational carbon in buildings. By providing technical guidance, global benchmarking and market intelligence, constructsteel advances industry-wide adoption of lower-impact building methods aligned with climate and resilience goals.

From its work on Life Cycle Assessment methodologies to its advocacy for steel’s role in disaster prevention and restoration, constructsteel brings deep expertise and real-world impact to this partnership. Among its key initiatives is its annual constructsteel Awards, which recognize and promote innovative and sustainable projects, encouraging the broader adoption of low-carbon steel solutions across the industry.

“This partnership reflects constructsteel’s core mission to position steel as a circular, low-carbon solution for the built environment,” said Terrence Busuttil, Director at constructsteel. “Through this relationship with CTBUH, we are scaling proven strategies to reduce embodied carbon, promote modular and demountable systems and drive measurable progress toward climate-resilient, high-density cities.”

Delivering data-driven solutions for vertical sustainability

Through this partnership, constructsteel will contribute its global expertise in circular construction and embodied carbon reduction to the CTBUH 2025 Sustainability Initiative, aligning with shared goals for low-carbon design and resilient urban development. As the Platinum Sustainability Partner, constructsteel will help drive further partnerships across the industry to advance scalable solutions in sustainable design, material efficiency and climate-responsive construction—supporting CTBUH’s mission to transform the future of high-rise cities.

About Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to smarter, more sustainable cities and a more viable future for global populations. Specifically, CTBUH focuses on the critical role of density in addressing climate change. CTBUH is headquartered in Chicago and has offices in Shanghai, China, and Venice, Italy. CTBUH’s worldwide membership network includes companies from fields such as real estate development, architecture, engineering, cost consulting, building management and construction, among others. In addition to hosting leading industry events, CTBUH produces research and reporting on issues of significant consequence to its membership. Its most utilized asset is its building database, a compendium of detailed data, images and technical information on more than 40,000 tall buildings throughout the world. CTBUH is best known to the public as the arbiter of tall building height and the global authority that bestows titles such as “The World’s Tallest Building.” For more information, please visit https://www.ctbuh.org/
