Construction of the long-stalled Jeddah Tower—set to surpass 1,000 meters in height—has officially resumed, with U.S.-based Turner appointed as project manager. Turner previously managed the construction of the Burj Khalifa, the current tallest building in the world.

The renewed momentum follows a series of key developments. Concrete pouring began earlier this year, marking the official restart of construction. Saudi Binladin Group (SBG), the project’s main contractor, received a SAR 712 million ($190 million) payment and signed a 42-month contract worth approximately SAR 8 billion with project developer Jeddah Economic Company (JEC) in 2023 to complete the structure.

The superstructure, which currently stands at 63 of its planned 157 floors, had remained unfinished since the mid-2010s. SBG has since reactivated the supply chain, awarding a façade engineering contract to a contractor. Designed by Adrian Smith & Gordon Gill Architecture and engineered by Dar Al-Handasah, the Jeddah Tower anchors the first phase of Jeddah Economic City, a 1.5 million-square-meter development on the Red Sea coast.

If completed as planned, Jeddah Tower will become the world’s first kilometer-high skyscraper, redefining the global skyline and setting a new benchmark for supertall construction.
