University of Bristol has revealed its plans for the currently unused Temple Quarter site near Bristol Temple Meads Station. The plans include building three tower blocks to house almost 1,000 students.

It is proposing an area known as ”Arena Island’‘, which will have all student accommodation together in one place. The accommodation is proposed to reach 21 stories high and be home to up to 953 students. Construction work will start in 2020 and the campus aims to welcome its first students in 2022. It will provide teaching, research and innovation space for 800 staff and 3,000 students. It is estimated that the new campus will generate over 1,300 new jobs.

The overall development is part of the wider regeneration of the Temple Quarter area. The aim is to unlock new routes into and through Bristol Temple Meads station, as well as creating new walking and cycling routes from East Bristol to the city center.
