The historic 30-story Tower-Life Building will undergo a multi-million dollar transformation starting in 2024. The eight-sided building features a distinctive green-glazed roof. The building had been owned for the past 70 years by the Zachry family of San Antonio.

In partnership with Bexar County, Wiegand’s company, developer Ed Cross and San Antonio’s well-known McCombs family are transforming the 1929 neo-Gothic skyscraper into a mixed-use residential tower.

The partnership will also work to protect the building’s 93-year history given its cultural presence.

Since the Tower-Life Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Wiegand said the partnership has been working with the National Park Service and the Texas Historical Commission.
