Topping Off Ceremony for Research and Innovation Building in New Brunswick
The HELIX NJ project in New Brunswick reached a major milestone with the placement of the final steel beam atop the 14-story H-1 building, part of the city’s innovation district. The 574,000-square-foot (53,326 square meter) structure will be home to Rutgers Medical School, translational research space, and the NJ Innovation Hub. The project, celebrated during a topping-off ceremony, is expected to be fully completed in late 2025.
HELIX NJ will ultimately feature three buildings totaling 1.5 million square feet (139,354 square meters) of research and workspaces, with major institutions like Rutgers, Hackensack Meridian Health, RWJ Barnabas Health, and Princeton University as key partners. The project will drive advancements in health and life sciences, fostering economic growth.
The two other buildings in the project yet to start construction are H-2, a 350,000-square-foot building (32,516 square meter), which will be home to Nokia Bell Labs with a projected move-in by 2028, while H-3, a 42-story mixed-use building, is slated for completion by 2030.
The HELIX NJ project is being developed by the New Brunswick Development Authority and its construction partner Jingoli. H-1 was the first project approved for up to $271 million USD in tax incentives under New Jersey’s ASPIRE program, which supports real estate development in underserved communities.
