Tencent Music’s Futuristic Headquarters Rises in Shenzhen’s Houhai District
Tencent Music Entertainment Group's new headquarters, the Music Technology Building, is taking shape in Shenzhen’s Houhai district. Designed by AS+GG and backed by a ¥1.58 billion investment, the landmark project broke ground in January 2023 and reached 38 percent progress as of May 2025, with the main structure set to top out within a year.
The architecture, inspired by the fluidity of music, features dynamic curves and flowing forms, symbolizing rhythm and movement. A smart adaptive curtain wall system automatically adjusts to environmental conditions for energy-efficient shading and optimal views. Atop the structure, dichroic glass and photovoltaic panels shift color with changing light, creating a vibrant visual presence on the skyline.
Inside, a flexible "stage" layout breaks from traditional office design to support exhibitions, performances, and interactive workspaces that foster collaboration and creativity. Situated within Shenzhen's Financial Business Headquarters Base—home to major corporations like China Resources and CNOOC—the building will house approximately 4,000 employees. As Tencent Music’s global headquarters, it is poised to become a hub for digital music innovation and strengthen Shenzhen’s leadership in the digital culture sector. It is scheduled to be fully completed by 2027.
